THRIFT STORE FINDS!!

Well, DD and I did find a couple of things...she got two new tops...which I didn't take a photo of. I do have a few more things from last week, but they are on the computer downstairs, so those photos will have to wait......I did take photos of 3 things and will show you those.

The above is two different shots of the same photo. I got this yesterday. I happened to be there when this was brought out. It probably doesn't mean anything to you unless you are from Eastern Canada....but it is a Catherine Karnes Munn....I just love her prints. This one I hung in my sewing room. I have several others of hers, some my mom gave me, that are hanging in my bedroom. I got this for $6.99...these are very hard to get now, as she is not making any new ones...they retail from $30.00 up...

This little wall plaque was 99 cents. I got her yesterday as well, and hung it in my sewing room..the thing is.....she is cross-stitching! AND she matches my sewing room. I just could not leave that there...LOL

The above is a picture I got on my venture there last week. This photo did NOT turn out very well! It is a dark red frame and the colours inside on the border are dark red and country blue. This is hanging in my stairway going down to the family room. This was new when I got it last week...never hung, as the hanger for it was still covered in plastic. The thing about this, is that when I saw it, I said to myself, this looks like something Leigh would have done...(I worked with her at the school, she moved to Florida last year).....as she and her mom and dad had a business of this sort and did very well....she and her mom did the tin punch...her dad and her hubby actually make the frames for them....well....when I turned it over...it was done by her!! I just had to have it...LOL...it looks great where I hung it.

And that is all the finds I have to show you right now. My DH has some business in the town I grew up in (100 mile drive each way) so he and I and DS will be heading out for there soon. It's a nice sunny day, so a good day for a drive.

Take care

HI HO, HI HO, IT'S OFF TO THE THRIFT STORE WE GO....

Wow, second post of the day! That's almost a new record for me..LOL. It is a beautiful day out.....youngest DD is gone all week to a wonderful cottage with her friend's family, DS is amusing himself in his favourite spot....our garage...and oldest DD is home..which when you are 17, have a boyfriend and work...is rare!! So, after making muffins, doing laundry and preparing some sandwiches for supper (too hot to cook) she and I have decided that we will venture to the Thrift Store to see what treasures we can find. I didn't show the treasures from last week that youngest and I found, so I'll post those as well.
Have a great afternoon everyone.

MORE ON OUR VACATION AND ANOTHER RAINY DAY!!

I love this shot of two of my children...it was taken just before the sun had gone down completely.

Happy Saturday morning! We have had rain at some point every day for over a week! Some days ALL day! Yes, I know, it's good for the soil, etc....but gee, it is still summer isn't it??

I promised more on our little vacation a few posts ago...so here we go....the above is my youngest, swimming off the boat in the middle of Northumberland Strait. She had a fantastic time! We told her she was swimming with the seals and dolphins, as we saw both that day. Here she is on top of another boat that had anchored with us in the Strait. You can see my son with his white hat on....

Have a great day everyone!!

A FUNERAL AND A HOT AND MUGGY DAY.

Today my cousin buried her husband. They were married 36 1/2 years and were together 42....she will be 60 this month. The funeral was large and it really was a wonderful service. They were opposites for sure....he was described as a caramilk bar...hard on the outside...soft and mushy on the inside. After the words that she had written about him were read, the soloist went right into "You Raise Me Up"...very moving.
I'm tired. I feel bad for my cousin....she's older than me, but we are close. We see each other every week. My heart goes out to her and their son and daughter as they begin their life without husband/father.

Take care everyone.
Have a good evening.

WHATCHA WORKING ON WEDNESDAY...

AND MORE.....
I'm adding my post to Leslie's today....as I am working on some things. First of all, it was SO hot and sunny all last week.....now this week it has rained since Sunday and I need to get alot of laundry done that can't go in the dryer!! Ugh! Oh well, it will all get done eventually.

I've also decided to start a new cross-stitch project, so I pulled this chart from my stash. I like it, it's a quick stitch and hopefully will get it done soon. I just needed something new to perk me up.

I'm in a really crappy mood this week. I know it's partly because of my cousin and her husband's passing, which by the way, I will be headed to the funeral home later today...but it's also partly my relationship with hubby. I will not go into any detail....he is a very good person, but we are SO different. You would think that after 22 years of being together I could accept that, but there are times when I can't...how do you find the faith to be positive in a relationship? No, he hasn't done anything wrong...it's just that our personalities clash at times. I don't understand his reasoning in things...and he in mine I guess. How do you look the other way and not say something when you disagree with him??

Anyway, on a brighter note, I am also going to make a stop at the thrift store later today. About a week and a half ago, I went and there was this large plastic jar of beads...my youngest wanted it....it was $1.99, so I got it for her...well, let me tell you, that jar has provided SO much enjoyment for both her and my oldest DD...they have made many necklaces and bracelets and youngest is going away next week to a cottage with her friend and family, so I decided to go see if there are more beads to be had! Actually, my youngest is best friends with my oldest DD's boyfriend's sister...they are the same age and get along wonderfully, so his family is taking my youngest to a cottage for a fun week! Confusing enough??

I also thought I would show you a couple of my favourite things in my home. This is not a good photo of my tea set, I had a hard time getting it, because it sits on top of my cupboards, but it is a Holly Hobby set my mom got for me when I was in grade 12. I had seen this set (teapot...4 cups and saucers and creamer and sugar bowl) in the drug store in my home town...it was $28.00....I remember that..LOL and I wanted it so badly, so anyway, there it was under the tree that Christmas. I have never seen another one just like it, and after all this time, I still absolutely adore it.

This is a bench that DH got for me a few years ago....I really like it...and the dolls, well I happened upon the Holly Hobby one 3 years ago...it was at a flea market I went to with a friend....and it was in a box of old stuffed animals...I asked the man how much it was...he said 25 cents! I proudly display her on the bench...the other two I bought from a lady at a different flea market...both were hers and new with tags on them....one is an Anne of Green Gables doll...I got them for $1.00 each!!! I think they all look nice sitting here.

Anyway, I have rambled on enough....you all have a great day!!

Hugs

WHERE I HAVE BEEN...

I have not been posting as much as I should be and I am sorry. My cousin, whom I am very close to, came home on Saturday morning to find her husband had passed away! She had been at the cottage and did not get a phone call from him on Friday night, so had a bad feeling and drove the 100 miles up here to the city. Her worst fears were confirmed. He retired at the age of 61 the end of October and did not do well with retirement. He also had lost alot of weight and his balance was off.....he had seen the Dr, but it didn't help and he wasn't ready to get further help, nor listen to my cousin at her request for more help. Sadly he fell down the stairs....my heart goes out to my cousin. She tried to help him, but realized that she also had to live her life. The have two grown children. Anyway, my thoughts and prayers are with her this week as our family gathers for the wake and the funeral service.
I am trying to read all my favourite blogs, but I am just not really up to posting about my fun vacation under the circumstances...I will be soon though.
Have a great day everyone.

HEAT AND HUMIDITY!!

It is so hot and humid!! I have no energy and feel like the life is sucked out of me!! We had a great time on vacation for a few days, and I will share some photos with you over the next few posts!!

On a totally different topic....I am going to see Elton John in September!! I tried unsuccessfully to get tickets online this am....when they went on sale, but my cousin was trying as well and she got some!! Woohoo!! Can't wait!!

This is the view we looked at each night we were gone. I have seen this view so many times in my lifetime. I spent each of my summers here until I was 19..at that time my parents sold our cottage and over time...my cousin and her husband bought it! It's nice to be able to go back once in a while. I also changed the header on the blog...I took this photo last week...it's the same place as the previous photo, just that this is one I took

We settled in to our camper on the cottage property. It was actually quite cozy in there. We arrived on Friday afternoon, our family reunion was on Saturday. We had lots of fun at that, but for privacy reasons, I will not share any photos, as I do not have permission. On Sunday morning my oldest, her boyfriend, my DH and our dog returned home. My youngest DD and my son and I stayed on in the camper. We enjoyed various walks on the beach (my own little piece of heaven....it is one of the best places on earth for me)

On Monday morning, my youngest and I got up early and had breakfast and headed for an early morning walk on the beach....doesn't this photo just say it all????

You can just see her walking along the shoreline in this photo....there were only a few early morning cottagers out for their morning stroll...other than that...the beach was empty.

The sun has completely come up in this photo...the beach still empty......the water...COLD..lol

And finally this photo.

I'll share some more photos and stories next post...I'm just thankful I managed to get this much done today....now back to the heat and humidity!!

Have a nice evening everyone!

LAST MINUTE DETAILS.....

I am down to the final stages of packing. I am doing it for my youngest, my son, my DH and myself, plus the food, things we will need for the tent trailer..etc...I don't "think" I have forgotten anything. My oldest DD will do her own packing, as she really won't be there long.

I am really looking forward to the family reunion on Saturday. It is supposed to be a wonderful sunny day, so that helps. My dad's brother will be there...he is the last surviving member of that generation. He is 88, and you would think he was 60. He's amazing...but then so was my dad. We should have around 40 people there...and there will be hot dogs, hamburgers, salads, fruit and veggies and ice cream for dessert! Yum!!

I also hope to get to visit my good friend Betty. I have not seen her new trailer since she bought it and moved it....it's about another 40 miles from where I will be staying, but the youngest two and I will make that trip probably on Sunday afternoon.

There is also a possibility of getting together with a few other friends.....and that would be just great! I see them all too little these days....

I hope to take the youngest two to a neighbouring town and tour around there (it's on the water and beautiful)...and get some lunch and maybe ice cream for dessert.

Ofcourse the kids will want to drive by my parents home. All of my children miss the town I grew up in, and my parents lived in SO much. They talk of it often, but it would have been a mistake to move there after my parents deaths. I explain to them that they have the wonderful memories BECAUSE of my parents and it would not be the same without them around. They will always have the wonderful memories of the fun times they had with my parents...I am forever grateful for that. They had fabulous grandparents.

So anyway, back to the packing....just how much "stuff" do you need for a few days??? LOL I am not a light packer...better to be safe than sorry!!

Have a great few days my friends...I will miss your blogs...but I will have the catching up on reading your posts when I return! I hope to have lots of fun stories and photos to share as well.

Hugs

WHATCHA WORKING ON WEDNESDAY!!

Woohoo...I actually am able to post on the right day this week! Leslie, over athttp://sweets-mycountryhome.blogspot.com/, is having this each Wednesday...today I am working on packing!!

We are heading out on Friday...(me with my car and DH with the van and the tent trailer!

We have a family reunion on Saturday and then DH, oldest DD, her boyfriend, and our dog will return back here on Sunday, youngest DD and DS and I will stay on for a few days. We will be camped out at two cottages, so we aren't really roughing it...we will sleep in the tent trailer at night, but we will have all the ammenities of the cottages as well DH will come back for the tent trailer later in the week.

While I was packing, because of the high temps and humidity, we also were enjoying the pool! It has been put to great use this past week. I am enjoying the time in it with the kids....and I know they are having fun! We didn't use it hardly at all last summer for some reason.

I will try and post tomorrow, but if I don't get a chance, it will be a few days before I am back on. I will update everyone then...and lots of photos as well!

Hugs

IT'S HOT OUTSIDE!!

Summer has officially arrived to my area! All the days of saying it wasn't summer like weather....have passed. The kids and I have been enjoying the pool and the deck, and going for ice cream cones in the evening.

I have also been trying to get things organized for this weekend. We are taking our tent trailer and heading to the area I grew up in...(see photo at top of blog).....we will be spending a few days at my cousins cottages (two of them)......and on Saturday we are having a family (cousins and families) reunion. We had one last year, and plan on doing so each summer. It's lots of fun. ON Sunday, my husband, our dog and our oldest daughter (who has to work) will head back here....the plan is that the two youngest and myself will stay on in the tent trailer. I want to get some long overdue visiting in.....cousins on the other side of the family and aunts......so it should be a nice time. We are also taking their bikes, as there are lots of wonderful areas to bike.
Yesterday, bright and early, I took my son and my youngest to get their hair cut. My daughter decided that she wanted bangs....like the girl on "Camp Rock". It really does look very nice on her. Then we went to Build a Bear. She had some coupons and a gift certificate and a bit of Birthday money so, she bought "Mitchie" (a name from Camp Rock...theme going here..LOL) and is thrilled! The doll is one she found in the Thrift Store...she's very cute too. I apologize for the glow in my dog's eyes.....she always seems to have "glowing" eyes!!

On Sunday I was admiring my Hostas.....a short while later, still on the back deck...I turned around AND.....UGH! Not one, not two, but THREE deer had eaten my plants!!!!!! Then they had the nerve to look at me taking their photo and seemed to be saying " Do you mind???"....They soon ran back into the woods.......I hope they enjoyed their lunch!!*&*

Today is another scorcher of a day.....I have no plans to leave the yard...I have alot I want to get done around here before it gets TOO hot.

Have a great day everyone!

WHATCHA WORKING ON WEDNESDAY..ON THURSDAY!!

Leslie over at http://sweets-mycountryhome.blogspot.com/ , has this going on Wednesdays, I'm a day late, but better than never!! Leslie.....you are rubbing off on me big time! LOL I had this ugly stand that I bought at a yard sale for $5.00 a few years ago, and it served it's purpose, but I hated it!

I wanted something to hold my light for when I cross-stitch in the evenings, or sew, in the den...anyway, I intended to donate this to the Thrift Shop, but needed to get something to replace it first...then it donned on me! Paint it!! So I did!! I'm really liking it!

I don't like how the photo turned out, but I am not going back up to the den to take a new photo at the moment...LOL, so for now this will have to do. I'm very happy with it.

Also, on a side note...our pool is finally up!! We usually have it set up before now, but weather just wasn't cooperating, so we waited. Sara and I were in tonight...it was very refreshing!!!

Have a great evening everyone!

CANADA DAY, FELLOWSHIP AND FIREWORKS...

Yesterday was Canada Day.....and this year we had something new to celebrate! Our neighbour invited us and all our "new" neighbours and ofcourse the "old" neighbours to a Canada Day Breakfast at his house!! Let me explain, "we" are in an area that has about twelve houses...some kind of far apart....however, this neighbour that had the breakfast, sold off some land for a new subdivision, so we have "new" neighbours...still not as close in distance as in some areas, LOL......so anyway, I'd have to say that almost everyone attended this breakfast, which was fabulous. We had sausage, hashbrowns, cinnamon rolls, garlic bread, plain rolls, homemade beans, eggs, fruit trays, coffee, tea, orange juice and apple juice! Now could it get any better than that????? After the breakfast we were all invited across the street to the son's house for games of washers and to swim...however we did not go to this.(Being a rather quiet family, I in particular am not fond of games like this....LOL) We came back here, relaxed for a while and then later in the evening headed out to the Canada Day Fireworks, which is a tradition with our family.

Now that the warmer weather has arrived we dug out our pool. It is big enough and deep enough that we require the water truck to come fill it...however, that won't be until Friday. (Possibly tomorrow)...so we will just have to be patient and wait.
And so that is what is going on in my household at the moment!
Have a great day everyone!
